Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered conservative presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro to surrender his passports and barred him from leaving the country, just hours after his apparent defeat to leftist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Sunday’s runoff election.
Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, said Monday that federal police approached him after he visited his father in Brasília and informed him of the restrictions.
Moraes issued the order amid a criminal investigation involving allegations of money laundering and other financial irregularities.
