Vice President J.D. Vance’s chief of staff Jacob Reses will exit the administration at the end of the summer, NBC News reported Thursday. Reses and Vance have been close since the latter’s successful Senate campaign in 2022. Vance said in a statement that he would “plan to keep his counsel close until our paths cross again.”

Reses, a Princeton graduate and former advisor to Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), has been seen as a key influence on Vance’s approach to economics and foreign policy during his time in the Senate.

Reses reportedly informed Vance he would be departing his position several months ago after his wife became pregnant. His current job plans aren’t clear, though sources close to the vice president told NBC News that it wouldn’t be a surprise if he one day returned to Vance’s office.
