The film follows Maud Maron, a former New York City public defender and mother of four public school children, who challenged Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in 2025. It traces her evolution from school-board activist to ex-Democrat turned Republican candidate, highlighting her fights over education, free speech, pandemic-era school policy, public safety, and the direction of New York City politics.
Maron’s campaign began as a challenge to Bragg’s record and became a broader rejection of the city’s progressive political establishment. Along the way, Maron argues that many New Yorkers — including former Democrats — are looking for an alternative on crime, schools, and civic sanity.
“Maud did not have to put herself out there,” said Natalya Murakhver. “She could have taken the easy way out and stayed a mom with her nose to the grindstone while her kids went to school. Instead, time after time, she spoke out when it was deeply inconvenient, and she kept getting canceled for it. If you see something, say something. Do not expect someone else to. Maud has been on the right side of things at her own cost, and she has always valued free speech; that is the reason for this film.”
“Rome wasn’t built in a day, and we really do have to just keep showing up and fighting for the sanity of our city,” Maron said.
“At the end of the day, remaining quiet is not my style,” she said. “We have leaders like Alvin Bragg who have made our city responsive to lawbreakers instead of law-abiders.”
