She’s already made news in preview clips from this interview by saying she never saw any signs that Joe was suffering from cognitive decline and that she was worried Joe was “having a stroke” during his disastrous June 2024 debate against Donald Trump.
“He was still doing a great job as president. He was still doing the work every single day,” she said about President Biden. “It was so hurtful to see many of the people that we really thought were behind Joe come out and attack him.”
“Of course, I could be blinded by love. I hope that I am blinded by love,” she said. “To me, he was the best president.”
“It couldn’t be me. It had to be his decision. Whether he stayed in or got out, he had to live with that the rest of his life. It had to be his decision alone.”
She described being First Lady as a “Catch-22,” explaining that: “If you knew too little about what you were doing, then you were an embarrassment. If you knew too much, then you were trying to rule the world.”
On why Joe Biden decided to drop out of the race for re-election: “Because he didn’t have the support of the Democratic Party. And so he made the decision not to.”
“This is what Joe had worked for all his life,” she said. “He loved being a statesman. He loved the job of helping the American people. And to give it up, I mean, he did it for over 50 years of his life. That’s a long time.”
“Our kids really wanted him to stay in, because they were hearing from people in Philadelphia or people that weren’t in the Washington bubble.”
“I was shocked she didn’t win,” she said about Kamala Harris. “I was certain she was going to win. The excitement for her and the crowds, and I mean how people rallied around her.”
“I just couldn’t believe that she had lost. I couldn’t believe it.”
Question: “I think this is the essential question that people are going to want to know from you: Have you ever seen signs of mental decline in your husband? Mental decline, not physical, mental.”
“No,” she said. “I mean, I’ve seen aging. I’ve seen him slow down, like I said, but no. No.”
