Even as the U.S. and Iran wrestle over an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, surging gas prices have turned the government’sattention to a perennially popular fiscal scam: Ease the pressure onhousehold budgets with a gas tax holiday. In reality, such a plan to…Read Full Article ⟶ Source link
In defending his record on measles, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. twice said during a recent Senate hearing, “We promote” the measles vaccine. While it’s true that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to recommend the shot, Kennedy has rarely made an unequivocal endorsement of it, even as the nation has seen an alarming rise in measles cases. Over a series of seven congressional hearings in April, Kennedy, who previously led a nonprofit that has spread vaccine misinformation, was quizzed about his views on the measles, mumps and rubella, or MMR, vaccine and his…
With the backlash to wokeness in full swing, it was probably inevitable that some political figures would come to regret the things they said and tweeted back when progressive cultural signaling felt necessary, roughly from 2014 to 2024. Republicans are out to destroy James Talarico, the Democratic candidate for Texas’s Senate seat, by resurfacing his most eye roll inducing takes from that time period, like when he said god was “non-binary” or when he promised to run a “non-meat” campaign in Texas in order to fight climate change. (For good measure, he was wearing a COVID-19 mask; this was in…
Some Democrats in the banking committee attempted to get Republican support on amendments related to ethics, none of which made it to the final bill on Thursday. The US Senate Banking Committee advanced a long-awaited digital asset market structure bill with bipartisan support, but Republicans still need Senate Democrats’ votes to pass the bill in the full chamber. On Thursday, Democratic Senators Ruben Gallego and Angela Alsobrooks sided with 13 Republicans to vote for the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (CLARITY) after months of delays in the banking committee. With the US Senate Agriculture Committee having already voted to advance the bill…

Qualified immunity is a judge-made doctrine that routinely shields bad cops from facing civil lawsuits over their abusive and unconstitutional behavior. All too often, a federal judge will hear a case in which a clear constitutional violation occurred, only to then shield the offending officer anyway from facing civil liability over the blatant misconduct. It’s a legal doctrine that deserves to be abolished. Occasionally, however, the officer will lose one of these cases, and qualified immunity will be denied. That’s what happened last year in Hart v. Grand Rapids, in which the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit…

My son, 13, and his friends, in episodes of post adolescence flippancy, refer to robotic technology in sci-fi appropriated, derisive terms such as “clankers” and “oil backs”, withal, a hint of angst about their future, albeit veiled in mockery. Take note, tech utopian fantasists: In Atlanta, in an all too biblical on-the-nose augury, robot driven, Uber Waymo cars– i.e., bereft of the requisite programming to apprehend and react to natural disasters — proceeded into flash flood-engendered water pooled streets and stalled out. Atlanta witnessed a preview of the tech-authoritarians so-called “post-human” world careening towards the reality of Nature’s elemental titans.…

“It’s a Jackie Robinson moment.” That declaration by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries struck a curious chord because Jeffries was calling for Black athletes to boycott SEC conference teams to protest not the existence but the elimination of racial discrimination. Read Full Article ⟶ Source link
