US Rejects Latest Peace Proposal From Iran

A senior US official said that the latest offer received from Iran was unacceptable, and President Donald Trump was considering breaking the ceasefire with Iran.

According to a senior official and a second source speaking with Axios, the White House views the Iranian proposal presented to the US on Sunday as insufficient. Trump is expected to meet with his top national security advisers on Tuesday to discuss breaking the ceasefire with Iran.

The US and Israel started the war with a surprise attack on Iran in February. After five weeks of fighting across the Middle East, the US and Iran agreed to a ceasefire brokered by Pakistan. The truce was meant to facilitate person-to-person talks between US and Iranian officials. However, after a single day of meetings, the US withdrew from the talks.

Since then, no in-person meetings have occurred, but Islamabad has continued to relay messages between Washington and Tehran. On Monday, Pakistan expressed concern that the ceasefire could break down and urged a compromise to bring the war to an end.

The two sides have conflicting demands on several key issues, including the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear program. Additionally, Iran is demanding an end to the Israeli war on Lebanon.

President Trump has threatened that if Tehran does not comply with his demands soon, he will restart the war. “For Iran, the Clock is Ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there won’t be anything left of them. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE! President DJT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Sunday.

Trump has issued similar statements throughout the month-long ceasefire, but has not followed through.
