Trump Sends Kushner, Witkoff to Qatar for Talks with Iran

President Donald Trump said that he was sending his son-in-law Jared Kushner and envoy Steve Witkoff to Qatar for discussions with Iran. The President claimed the talks were coming at Tehran’s request.

“IRAN HAS REQUESTED A MEETING. IT WILL TAKE PLACE TOMORROW IN DOHA!” the President wrote on Truth Social Monday. The Iranian Embassy in Qatar said it was unaware of the negotiations announced by Trump. “We have not received any official information on this matter so far,” an Iranian statement explained.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei says there are no plans to meet with the Americans in Qatar, but added he was traveling to Doha to Lebanon for meetings on “implementing the provisions of the memorandum of understanding.”

The post followed several days of US and Iran attacks on targets in the Persian Gulf. The fighting broke out last week when Iran attacked cargo ships attempting to use an unapproved lane in the Strait of Hormuz.

While Tehran has not commented on the talks Trump announced in Doha, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Witkoff and Kushner were traveling to Qatar for the discussions. “Special Envoy Witkoff and Jared Kushner will be flying to Doha for high-level meetings this week, as we continue to discuss the memorandum of understanding. On the sidelines of those high-level talks, will be the technical talks,” she told Fox News. “As far as we’re concerned, we’re holding up our end of the ceasefire. Violence will be met with violence.”

The ceasefire established by the Memorandum of Understanding appears fragile. Tehran has accused Washington and Tel Aviv of violating the ceasefire.
