President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that he had planned to restart the war against Iran on Tuesday, but called off the strikes after requests from Washington’s Gulf Arab allies.
“I have been asked by the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Monday. “To hold off on our planned Military attack of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was scheduled for tomorrow.”
“Serious negotiations are now taking place.” He added, “A deal will be made, which will be very acceptable to the United States of America, as well as all Countries in the Middle East, and beyond.”
While Trump claims that serious diplomacy is underway, there is no indication that the US or Iran has moved away from their positions for an agreement. On Monday, the President told The New York Post that he is “not open” to making any concessions to reach a peace deal with Iran.
In his Truth Social post, Trump threatened that if Tehran did not sign an agreement acceptable to him, he would order an attack on Iran. I “have further instructed them to be prepared to go forward with a full, large scale assault of Iran, on a moment’s notice, in the event that an acceptable Deal is not reached,” the President wrote.
The ceasefire between the US and Iran has held for over a month despite frequent violations. Pakistan, which is mediating talks between the US and Iran, warned on Monday that the truce was on the verge of collapse.
