The Kyle Anzalone Show: China Blows Up Trump’s Economic War on Iran

The Strait of Hormuz is where slogans go to die. Today we take a hard look at the claim that the United States “controls” the strait because mines were cleared and surveillance is perfect, then we test that claim against something more revealing: the reported message relayed through Pakistan offering to lift sanctions if Iran reopens shipping. If Washington has control, why negotiate for access? I walk through the incentives, the contradictions, and what leverage actually looks like when global oil flows, insurance risk, and regional escalation are all tied together.

We also dig into Iran’s position around a memorandum of understanding and why Tehran keeps linking navigation to a broader ceasefire structure across the Middle East. Then the story gets more concrete with Oman’s role. Reports of technical talks point to a phased framework for safe navigation, a permanent maritime corridor, information exchange, traffic management, and even a possible two-lane design that could give Iran and Oman real veto power over transit. If foreign military ships face new limits, that raises an immediate question about the U.S. Navy’s posture with Bahrain sitting inside the Persian Gulf.

From there, we zoom out to the economic war: China signals it won’t let U.S. sanctions disrupt its cooperation with Iran, and we connect that stance to banking channels, yuan pricing, secondary sanctions limits, and America’s own dependence on rare earth minerals like gallium. We close with the political split between Trump and Netanyahu on escalation, a critique of the “wartime footing” defense buildout, a warning sign in Ukraine about potential sabotage targeting UK-linked drone production, and why Trump’s North Korea rhetoric looks like a hunt for a headline summit while Kim Jong-un’s leverage grows. Subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review with your take on who really holds the leverage right now.
