The AI idiocracy: Is AI becoming an over-relied on external source of intelligence? Won’t this make the human race lazier and dumber, creating the idiocracy?
Let’s look into this.
AI ChatGPT
AI ChatGPT CEO Sam Altman’s somewhat audacious idea that intelligence should be metered: a controlled and monetized commodity like electricity, has sent a red-flag warning to many.
-That’s the same mentality as former Nestlé CEO Peter Brabeck-Letmathe who sparked off much controversy and criticism when he said “water should be monetized…”
Since the emergence of AI ChatGPT in 2020, its heavy promotion spearheaded by technologists having self-interests, it gives the impression that it cannot be ignored; you will lose out if you “get left behind…”
AI flaws
However, now that we’ve had a good few years to evaluate AI, there have been claims that it has a number of flaws.
*AI can give horribly wrong answers. AI’s dimness has been frequently commented on. It also lies to you. It wants you to believe that these lies are truth.
*An AI system has been used on facial recognition. Certain individuals with genetic face disfigurement have been scanned by AI for facial recognition, such that needed to authenticate driver’s licenses for photo ID. Because of their facial disfigurement AI says the person “doesn’t exist!”
-Can you imagine the possible embarrassment, hurt and inconvenience this causes to the people affected. To make matters worse, those idiots in authority seeing this had happened did nothing to correct the obvious AI mistake.
*I don’t exactly see people saying how brilliant these tech people generating AI are, as we feel so dumb in comparison. I don’t see people saying, how these tech geniuses have solved, or are solving, humanity’s most pressing problems…
*AI has sued a number of musicians and won.
There was a case where folk musician Murphy Campbell had her voice cloned by AI. The AI system cloned Murphy’s voice and songs, then, after uploading this stolen version onto a streaming channel without her knowledge or consent, AI went on to sue Murphy for infringement of copyright on her original version!
-How would you like to lose money on a faked version of yourself?!
*Studies have shown that those having lower AI literacy are more likely to be more receptive to AI’s responses, even when it’s wrong. Does that mean that the dumber are becoming dumber?
The opposite also occurs: Those having higher AI literacy are more likely to be less trustworthy.
*Students become too reliable on AI. When they graduate they cannot fit into the real world in relation to what they majored in, as they hadn’t really grasped knowledge skills during their training in colleges.
*On similar lines to the above point. College professors cannot tell the difference between student’s coursework submissions from AI generated answers…
*Studies have shown that the more reliant people become over time on ChatGPT, the more cognitive decline occurs.
*So much for the comment “don’t get left behind…” If you don’t use AI ChatGPT.
*Further, studies have shown that interactions with sycophantic chatbots can lead to cognitive issues or “AI psychosis.”
AI creating two different classes
The only individuals telling you how brilliant AI is are those who stand to make huge gains from their AI-based products. In other words, everything they tell you has that oh-so-familiar sales pitch.
-Could it be said that AI isn’t serving humanity, it’s destroying it, as humans become more redundant and dumber in the idiocracy? A world that self-serving technocrats want, so that they can have more money, power and control?
A world that is progressively getting more and more divided into 2 different classes of human. One class made up of AI controllers: The other class, the slaves to the AI system.
AI having a hand in destroying individuality
The more we become dependent on AI, the more we will lose our individuality. Bear in mind, your individuality is your greatest strength.
As this is already happening, have you noticed how so many people, particularly, the young generation, sound and act the same as each other. Same thought or behavioral patterns and emotional reactions… Same appearances.
-AI has had a hand in promoting this same behavior with its “median responses,” designed to tell you only what you want to hear: The more the general consensus of the masses respond in the same way, the more likely the AI will give answers consistent with this common thought, behavior, emotion.
Those expressing their individuality, having the ability to think critically, over time AI will be less and less likely to give responses consistent with such individuals: These types of responses are not the median or average, so they could be completely left out of AI’s responses.
-It’s a case where uniformity neutralizes or even nullifies indifference. No more uniqueness folks.
Finally
Consider the effects as adults lose their individuality, cognitive functioning, creativity, ability to think critically through over dependance on AI.
Won’t this be a case where adults are losing skills; children won’t have the capacity to build them as they will never receive the knowledge on how to build them?
-That’s a significant part of the anatomy making up AI driven conformity.
