One of the Solicitor General’s primary claims in the Trump v. Barbara oral argument was that the Trump Administration’s position on birthright citizenship aligns with the consensus of commentators in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Supreme Court’s decision in Wong Kim Ark notwithstanding. Setting aside whether post-ratification commentary is a reliable guide to the original public meaning of a constitutional provision–particularly where, as here, many opponents of the Fourteenth Amendment sought to narrow the scope of its guarantees–many scholars (and amicus briefs) contest the SG’s claim. One point of contention concerns the opinions of Richard W. Flournoy,…
It has been declared that there will be a ceasefire for two weeks, the Iranians will allow for shipping to pass through the Straits of Hormuz. All will be well… It is holding. The somewhat theocratic Sunni republic of Pakistan mediated negations with the Shiite republic of Iran and the USA. The same USA that had it’s reality television star president stand alongside an Easter Bunny as he blathered on about death and destruction while boasting about himself. There was promise of mass destruction to befall Iran, then the announcement there would be a ceasefire. Topsy turvy messaging, or madness…

On March 17, the Senate began debate on the SAVE America Act, a Republican-backed voter identification and registration bill that passed the House last month. Here, we answer several questions about the legislation, many of them asked by our readers. Previous versions of the bill, called only the SAVE Act, died in the Senate, where the measure hasn’t garnered 60 votes to overcome a filibuster and force a final vote. The new legislation could well face a similar fate — eventually — but the Republican leadership is holding a weeklong (or so) debate in an effort to attract support. David…
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is the current secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), but like so many (too many) political figures, what he really wants to do is talk on television. And so he is starting a podcast. You are reading Free Media from Robby Soave and Reason. Get more of Robby’s on-the-media, disinformation, and free speech coverage. Billing his new show as an attempt at radical government transparency and accountability, RFK Jr. said in a statement: “This podcast is about telling the truth, especially when it’s uncomfortable. I’m going to have fearless conversations with critical thinkers, including independent doctors,…
In honor of the 57th Anniversary of a truly “classic” case, I am posting an analysis from my book UFO Sightings (Prometheus Books, 1998). This analysis was first published in my 1981 book The UFO Verdict (also Prometheus, which can be “borrowed” online from the Internet Archive library), and was republished with only minor additions and updates. In the late 1970s I made a very Deep Dive into this case, which was being promoted big-time. Here is the result. A Flying Saucer Named Floyd We now turn to the story of a famous flying saucer whose name is Floyd. Very few flying…
This is a tiny ray of light in what has been a gloomy year for science-based federal health policy. Recently U.S. District Court Judge Brian Murphy in Boston ruled that the actions of RFK Jr. as HHS Secretary to fire the entire Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) did not follow procedure and is therefore not valid. Further, he concluded that the new ACIP, packed with anti-vaxxers, made capricious and arbitrary decisions that did not follow established science-based procedure. His ruling is a preliminary injunction that has delayed meetings of the ACIP and stays the revised vaccine schedule. The ruling…
Can a place be evil? Is it possible for so many atrocities and death and anguish to seep into a place and permeate in to the point that it actually becomes, in a sense, malevolent? Throughout history, there have been those places around which orbit murder, suffering, and grotesqueries to the point that they are saturated with evil, and in many cases, these places are haunted, cursed, or both. These are some of those places. Source link
Those who follow developments in UFOdumb are probably familiar with the book Trinity, The Best-Kept Secret, self-published by Paola Harris and Jacques Vallee. I wrote only a little about it early last year. It’s the story of a supposed saucer crash in New Mexico in August, 1945 not far from the site of the Trinity nuclear test, the world’s first. It’s primarily based on the accounts of two young boys who supposedly witnessed the saucer crash, saw still-living aliens, and then watched as the army carried it all off. The Second EditionPaola Harris and Jacques Vallee When the book was first…
