Ceasefire Day 26: Trump Skeptical of Iranian Proposal

Going into the 26th day of the Iran War ceasefire, President Donald Trump expressed skepticism of a new Iranian proposal to end the war.

While boarding Air Force One Saturday evening, President Donald Trump said that he was reviewing the Iranian proposal to end the war.

In a Truth Social post, Trump said, before reviewing the proposal, that he “can’t imagine that it would be acceptable in that they have not yet paid a big enough price for what they have done to Humanity, and the World, over the last 47 years.”

Tasnim News Agency reported Sunday details of the 14-point counterproposal that was delivered to U.S. officials through Pakistan’s mediation team. It is said to reject the U.S. offer of a two-month ceasefire, with Iran insisting that all issues be resolved within 30 days.

Per Tasnim, Iran’s demands also include the U.S. lifting its naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions removal and the release of its frozen assets, a withdrawal of U.S. military forces from areas surrounding Iran, nonaggression guarantees, and an end to Israel’s military campaign in Lebanon, among other terms.

The terms published by Tasnim also include “a new mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz.” Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had said Thursday that Tehran would create “new legal frameworks” for managing the Strait of Hormuz in the postwar period.

The U.S. Treasury Department issued a warning to shipping firms on Friday that paying fees to pass through the tollbooth—which Iran is reported to have established in the Strait of Hormuz—could result in punitive sanctions.

Iran had previously introduced a 10-point plan to end the war, which became the basis of a ceasefire that began on April 8, 2026. That 10-point plan proposed by Iran was the subject of controversy when the U.S. disputed several terms in the agreement, including Iran’s right to enrich uranium and a ceasefire in Lebanon, where Israel’s air strikes and mass demolition campaign have largely continued.

Israeli strikes were reported to have killed at least six people across southern Lebanon on Sunday, hitting a mosque and a monastery among other targets, as the IDF issued evacuation orders for 11 villages. The IDF said that Hezbollah rockets and explosive drones were launched at Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon on Sunday, with no injuries reported.

Gas prices continued to rise on Sunday. AAA reported the national average price of a gallon of regular gas at $4.45.
