President Trump is right that the old East Wing was insufficient to meet the needs of the modern presidency. The White House urgently needs security upgrades to defend against modern threats like drone attacks, missiles, high-powered weapons and cyberattacks. It also requires a more secure and capacious ballroom for official events. After months of careful planning, the old East Wing was taken down and construction of a new East Wing began on Oct. 20, 2025.
