Israel bombed Beirut’s southern suburbs on Sunday, despite a US public and additionally reported private request last week not to attack Lebanon’s capital, as a tenuous ceasefire to the Iran War entered its 61st day.

In an interview aired on NBC’s Meet the Press Sunday, which was recorded on Friday, President Donald Trump said that he “would like to see a more surgical attack against Hezbollah. I think it should be more surgical.”

Ebrahim Rezaei, the spokesman for Iran’s Parliament Commission on National Security, said that Iran would “deliver a decisive and painful response” to Israel’s attack on Dahiyeh, Beirut, saying that “rabid dogs must be disciplined and put back in their place.” Rezaie added, “look at the sky over the occupied lands tonight.”

Iran’s Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Sunday that “the naval blockade against the Iranian nation and America’s green light today” to Israel “turn American and regime bases and assets in the region into legitimate targets.”

In his NBC interview, Trump said that the U.S. and Iran are “very close” to a deal to end the conflict. “We have a couple of points. They don’t even seem like big points,” Trump said. Iran has made a ceasefire in Lebanon, including an Israeli withdrawal from parts of the country it occupies, a precondition for ending the war. Tehran said earlier this month it was suspending peace negotiations with Washington over Israel’s continued military campaign.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry reported Sunday that Israeli strikes have killed at least 3,613 people since March 2. Four Israeli reserve soldiers were injured by Hezbollah drone attacks in southern Lebanon Sunday morning, the Israeli military said, while Israel’s Channel 12 reported the Israeli military death toll since the Lebanon “ceasefire” was declared on April 16 has risen to 16.

The price of Brent Crude oil closed at $93 on Friday while gas prices remained elevated. AAA reported the national average price of regular gas at $4.17. Both figures are down from recent peaks.
