Wednesday on the RealClearPolitics podcast, Sean Trende joins Carl Cannon, Tom Bevan, and Andrew Walworth to break down the early results from Tuesday night’s primary elections in California, New Jersey, and Iowa, and where both parties are headed going into November. They also look at how the congressional redistricting battle has worked out.

The panel takes a closer look at artificial intelligence, breaking down a new proposal from Bernie Sanders to create a sovereign wealth fund by requiring major AI companies to transfer a 50% equity stake into a public sovereign wealth fund, the president’s most recent executive order, and how quickly the new technology is gobbling up campaign spending.

Listen live weekdays at 11:00 a.m. Eastern on SiriusXM’s Megyn Kelly Channel 111, or on Apple, Spotify, YouTube, or other platforms.

00:00 — Opening: Hilton, Pratt Look To Advance

The show begins with Sean Trende’s analysis of the results of last night’s primaries in California, where Republicans Spencer Pratt and Steve Hilton both advanced to the general election in the state’s “jungle primaries” for L.A. mayor and California governor.

6/2 Results: California | Iowa | S. Dakota | New Mexico | Montana | New Jersey

The good news for Pratt is that a majority of Angelenos voted for someone other than incumbent Mayor Karen Bass, but his challenge is winning over the voters who supported Nithya Raman and other left-of-center candidates.

09:13 — ‘Good Night for Schumer’ in Iowa?

The panel turns to Iowa, where there are races for the open Senate and governor seats. Controversial Democratic state Rep. Josh Turek will face Republican Ashley Hinson for Senate, and Trump-endorsed Randy Feenstra lost the GOP gubernatorial primary to a political newcomer, Zach Lahn.

They also discuss New Jersey’s 12th District, where former Army doctor Adam Hamdan won the Democratic primary.

“He’s going to win the general election,” Trende said about Hamdan. “This is a Democratic district. And as we know, no matter what comes out about him or what is in his background, it won’t matter, right?”

20:04 — Bernie’s ‘Innovative’ Proposal To Regulate AI

After that, the panel discusses a new proposal from Bernie Sanders to give the public a 50% stake in the top AI, seizing those stocks to create a new public wealth fund.

“There is one thing that I think Bernie Sanders is right about,” Bevan said. “The intellectual property that is being aggregated by these companies.”

“But this is a door Donald Trump sort of cracked open when he started talking about sovereign wealth funds and taking a stake in Nvidia or Intel,” he continued. Bernie is just following in the footsteps of the current president… once you start down the slippery slope, who knows where you end, right, Carl?”

“If the debate is whether we’re going to have national socialism or socialism, we’ve lost the plot a little bit,” Carl Cannon added.

38:33 — Scott Pelley Fired From CBS

Longtime “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley was fired after he confronted the new executive producer, Nick Bilton. The panel discussed his motives and what the new management should have done.

“This is how warped people’s perceptions on the left are by Donald Trump, that they now think Susan Collins and Bari Weiss are their personification of MAGA,” Bevan commented.

“So CBS has lost a reporter, but the good news is the world has gained a new podcaster,” Andrew Walwroth joked.

44:37 — WHCA Dinner is Rescheduled

The episode ends with President Trump’s pledge to attend the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
