Private equity office building, Sherman Oaks, California. Photo: Jeffrey St. Clair. For more than a decade, private equity has been on a quest to gain access to the nearly $14 trillion of  hard-earned money in workers’ defined contribution retirement accounts, two-thirds in 401(k) plans. New court filings in Utah’s case against Tyler Robinson, the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s murder, gave way to widespread claims that a bullet analysis exonerates him. Robinson’s lawyers wrote in a March 27 court filing that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was “unable to identify the bullet recovered at autopsy to the rifle allegedly tied to Mr. Robinson.” In a previous court filing from March 10, lawyers for news media seeking public disclosure quoted an ATF report that the defense counsel had cited. The report compared a bullet jacket fragment from Kirk’s autopsy to a recovered rifle…

Courtney Williams never made her gripes with the military a secret. In the mid-2010s, she filed a discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) about her time as a civilian staffer at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, settling the complaint in exchange for an undisclosed sum of money in 2018. Maybe it’s because of portals for aliens. Or possibly it is some innate quality of the land itself that draws in these bizarre forces. Whatever the case may be, these places in a way lie outside of normal reality, steeped in mystery and surrounded by strange phenomena. Here we will take a journey through some of these places, where reality and the paranormal collide. Source link

Trial by jury isn’t just a British legal and cultural tradition. It isn’t just a part of our legal system. It’s a safeguard against the tyranny of the state. To be judged by your peers is to be judged by the society of which you make up but one part. The people are meant to check the determination of the state to forebay its determination to prove its own worth, which all too often means people get the book thrown at them when all they truly deserve is a chapter. David Lammy, the justice secretary and deputy prime minister, is…
