Trump issues psychedelics order. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to allow more access to certain psychedelic drugs to treat mental health disorders. “Psychedelic drugs, including ibogaine compounds, show potential in clinical studies to address serious mental illnesses for patients whose conditions persist after completing standard therapy,” reads the executive order. The Reason Roundup Newsletter by Liz Wolfe Liz and Reason help you make sense of the day’s news every morning. The order directs the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to provide expedited review of qualifying psychedelics through the Trump administration’s National Priority Voucher program, which promises a one- to…
MAGA died, the Iran war killed it, and a resurrection isn’t likely. So argues Christopher Caldwell, a titan of intellectual conservatism, in a recent piece on Donald Trump for the Spectator. “The attack on Iran is so wildly inconsistent with the wishes of his own base, so diametrically opposed to their reading of the national interest, that it is likely to mark the end of Trumpism as a project,” Caldwell writes. I’ve argued much the same in The American Conservative. Replying to such critiques, the Trump administration has brandished polls showing that 100 percent of MAGA-identified voters still approve of…

Photograph Source: TechCrunch – CC BY 2.0 Be wary of a company – any company – who exerts moral muscle as they create software and digital platforms that are injurious and simultaneously lauded for curing that injury. Be especially wary of Anthropic. With sagacious loftiness, it warns of the disabling dangers of the artificial intelligence (AI) frontier. Principled, it tells the Trump administration it will not partake in creating AI software that aids mass surveillance, a move that earned it an order of excommunication as a “supply chain risk”. It then goes on to create Claude Mythos Preview, a…
The United States finished handing over all its major military bases in Syria to the new government, ending a decade of American military presence in the country. U.S. troops were first stationed there in 2015 as part of the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Syria’s foreign ministry and the U.S. military’s Central Command said Thursday that the transfer of major sites was complete, marking a new phase of cooperation without permanent American outposts. The U.S. will continue training and assisting Syrian security forces, including in operations against ISIS remnants in the country, but without maintaining…
Apropos the “cat out of the bag” objection to sealing or pseudonymity, I thought I’d note last month’s P.F. v. M.B. (by Queens County, N.Y. judge Scott Dunn), which offers an example of the contrary approach. I’m not saying the P.F. result is correct, but I thought it worth noting: For a period of approximately one year, Plaintiff and Defendant M.B. allegedly were engaged in a serious romantic relationship while Defendant M.B. was married to … Defendant Calcetas …. Plaintiff also alleges that Defendants, in concert or one at the direction of the other, and without Plaintiff’s consent, disseminated intimate…

Photograph Source: NAVCENT Public Affairs – Public Domain The unprovoked joint U.S.-Israeli war launched against Iran on 28 February 2026 will manifestly change West Asia. When it ends, Arab despots, who allowed their countries to be used as platforms for aggression against Iran, will confront a new reality. The safety and stability they thought was theirs based on fealty to the United States and its Israeli proxy was shattered as Iranian missiles and drones were en route to destroy the U.S. military and intelligence installations they had allowed on their soil; a subordination they falsely believed would protect them. The…
