“When Governments Fail, We Sail — Humanity’s Compass Points to Gaza.” Joshua Scheer As Gaza remains under siege and much of the world looks away, activists continue to challenge the blockade through acts of nonviolent resistance. In this powerful interview with Chris Hedges, Brazilian organizer Thiago Ávila recounts what he describes as one of the most brutal crackdowns yet against the Gaza Freedom Flotilla movement. Ávila details the interception of a multinational humanitarian mission in international waters, the detention of more than 180 activists, and allegations of beatings, threats, solitary confinement, and interrogation by Israeli authorities. His account is…
At the Palace of Versailles in France, President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed a framework peace deal to end the Iran War and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian later signed a copy of the agreement. The “memorandum of understanding” formally ends the war on all fronts—including Lebanon, where Israel has waged a military campaign against the militant group Hezbollah—and commits the U.S. and Iran to achieving a final deal within 60 days. In recent days, Trump has criticized Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for civilian casualties in Lebanon. Subscribe Today Get daily emails in…
Image by Pop & Zebra. The Trump administration is rolling out a new model for India that marks a subtle shift in U.S. imperial strategy but continues decades of U.S. imperial practices. Drawing on its National Security Strategy, which claims to be shifting U.S. strategy away from “global domination” toward “global and regional balances of power,” the Trump administration is redefining India as critical pillar in the balance of power in the Indo-Pacific. Although administration officials insist that they want India to function as a key power center, they are requiring limits to its power, determined to prevent the country from…

The U.S. Supreme Court just added a new case to its upcoming 2026–27 docket that should interest fans of early American history. At issue in Kian v. Florida is whether the Sixth Amendment right to trial by jury requires 12-person juries in all criminal cases. Florida law says it does not. According to that state’s statute books, “twelve persons shall constitute a jury to try all capital cases, and six persons shall constitute a jury to try all other criminal cases.” Hamed Kian, who was tried by a six-person Florida jury and sentenced to prison for practicing chiropractic medicine with…
Robert Inlakesh On this Monday’s edition of The Target stream, Mint Press News’ Robert Inlakesh cuts through the corporate media’s spin on the newly agreed Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, focusing on the broader issues that will determine the deal’s viability. Following a two-month long deadlock at the negotiating table, due to US intransigence, a sudden breakthrough was announced by President Donald Trump. In the days prior to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the US and Iran were trading heavy blows initiated by American aggression on southern Iran. Backing down from his threats, last Friday, to launch…
SpaceX headquarters, Bolsa Chica, Texas. Photo: Alexander Hatley, Wikimedia Commons. CC BY 2.0Last week was a big one for the AI bubble. SpaceX had the largest IPO ever and Elon Musk became the world’s first trillionaire. In fact, it was such a big deal I thought I would summon Mr. Arithmetic out of retirement to get his insights. First, if anyone is wondering what rockets have to do with the AI bubble, you have to look at the company’s registration statement. It projects that more than 90 percent of its future market ($26.5 trillion of $28.5 trillion) is in AI.…
Gregory P. Downs, Black Agenda Report. Most people think Juneteenth was simply when enslaved Texans learned they were free. But that is a myth. They knew the war ended but the fight for freedom did not end with one proclamation; it took months of occupation and struggle against planters who refused to give up their human property. “We knowed what was goin’ on in [the war] all the time,” said Felix Haywood, dismissing the notion that his fellow Texas slaves were ignorant of the Emancipation Proclamation. One hundred fifty years ago, the U.S. Army took possession of Galveston Island, a…
