President Donald Trump announced the US and Iran may resume talks in Pakistan in the next two days. Islamabad is attempting to broker an agreement between Washington and Tehran to end the war in the Middle East. On Tuesday, Trump told The New York Post that talks with Iran “could be happening over next two days.” An American delegation, led by Vice President JD Vance, Steve Wittkoff, and Jared Kushner, met with Iranian officials in Pakistan on Saturday. The talks were set up under a ceasefire deal mediated by Islamabad. The two-week truce was agreed to on April 7 and…
Photograph Source: Chris Phan (Clipdude) – CC BY 2.5 Donald Trump loathes mail-in voting — except, of course, when he uses this method to cast his own ballot, as he did in a recent Florida special election. Frustrated by Congressional inaction, Trump issued an executive order last week to restrict what he likes to call “mail-in cheating.” Actual proven cases of mail voting fraud? Those amount to a whopping 0.000043 percent of total mail ballots, according to Brookings experts. Trump’s real fear: that vote by mail gives Democrats an edge. In reality, broad, cross-partisan swaths of our electorate benefit from…
President Donald Trump ordered McDonald’s delivered to the White House via DoorDash to highlight his 2025 tax and spending legislation that eased taxes on workers’ tips. Sharon Simmons, wearing a “DoorDash Grandma” T-shirt, handed off two bags of cheeseburgers and fries and thanked Trump for the “no tax on tips” policy. Addressing reporters two days before the IRS’ April 15 filing deadline, Trump said, “We should call it the great, big, beautiful tax cut bill, because it’s tremendous amounts of money.” Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act delivered on portions of his tax agenda, including breaks for workers eligible for…
From the N.Y. Workers’ Compensation Board in Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority, decided last week (opinion by Board Members Steven A. Crain, Renee L. Delgado, and Mark D. Higgins): The claimant filed a C-3 (Employee Claim) on January 8, 2025, setting forth that she suffered an exacerbation of severe mental illness due to exposure of a racially insensitive wooden item in another staffer’s office on January 25, 2023…. At a hearing on March 7, 2025, the claimant testified that she was employed as a property manager on January 25, 2023 and was out of work at the time because in July…
While evacuating more sections of Gaza and ethnically cleaning more towns in the West Bank, Israel has been striking Lebanon. It dubbed its merciless assault on April 8 “Eternal Darkness,” suggesting the kind of barbarity involved. Aftermath of an Israeli strike in Beirut on April 8. (Megaphone /Wikimedia Commons/CC BY-SA 4.0) By Vijay PrashadPeoples Dispatch As the United States farcically walks away from the negotiations with Iran in Pakistan, it was always a matter of concern whether Israel would abide by any such agreement. This was particularly the case with Lebanon and with the Palestinian territories, where Israel seemed absolutely hell…
The Bank of France has just completed a major restructuring of its gold reserves, selling 129 tonnes of gold previously stored at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and replacing it with newly refined, internationally compliant bullion now held entirely within its vaults in Paris. This operation represented roughly 5% of France’s total gold reserves and was not a reduction in holdings but a transformation in form and location. By taking advantage of the surge in gold prices, the central bank realized a capital gain of approximately €13 billion, reversing a €7.7 billion loss in 2024 into a reported profit of…

The officials alleged that he had “sent repeated harassing and threatening emails” to them, and the trial court issued a stalking no contact order, apparently in part because of that. But the “no naming” order covered all speech about the officials (to the public and to third parties), not just threatening speech. And the officials’ concerns were apparently in part about the man’s “unsupported and outlandish allegations,” and his “smearing the name[s]” of the officials, not just about threats. An excerpt from the long Skertich v. Luffman, decided last week by the Illinois Appellate Court (Justice Michael McHaney, joined by…
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said that Rome would not renew its defense pact with Tel Aviv. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar downplayed the decision. Italy “has decided to suspend the automatic renewal of the defense agreement with Israel in consideration of the current situation,” Meloni told reporters at an event on Tuesday. Rome’s defense agreement with Tel Aviv began in 2005. The deal encourages technological exchange and defense sales between the two nations. Israel is becoming a pariah state due to its brutal and aggressive war tactics. Tel Aviv is in the process of committing a genocide in Gaza,…
