Ukraine Launches Hundreds of Drones at Russia, Claims Hits on Warships

Ukraine has launched a series of drone strikes at Russia, damaging warships and killing one person.

On Monday, the Ukrainian intelligence service, GUR, claimed that drones destroyed two landing ships and damaged a radar at a Russian port in Crimea. Ukraine also attacked the Russian base in Sevastopol on Saturday.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that its forces had downed missiles and 274 drones over the past day. “Air defense forces shot down 6 guided aerial bombs, a HIMARS multiple rocket launcher projectile, a Neptune long-range guided missile, and 274 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles,” the statement said.

Russian officials admitted some Ukrainian drones evaded defenses in the Bolograd region, causing damage to civilian homes and commercial facilities. Additionally, one person was killed in Tuapse by a Ukrainian drone.

The Russian Defense Ministry also claimed its forces hit military targets across Ukraine, and its forces continue to make gains in multiple regions along the front.

As the war in Ukraine continues to escalate, Moscow and Kiev traded accusations of supporting terrorism. Russian authorities said they prevented a terror plot by Ukraine that involved using a German citizen as an “unwitting” suicide bomber.

On Saturday, a gunman killed six people in Kiev. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted the man’s Russian heritage during his remarks on the attack. “It has been established that the attacker set fire to an apartment before taking to the streets with a weapon.” He continued. “He had a prior criminal record, had lived in the Donetsk region  for a long period, and was born in Russia.”

Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik told TASS that the number of terror attacks in Ukraine is likely to increase. “A number of terrorist attacks similar to the recent one reported in Kiev is likely to grow against the background of the escalating depression, a large number of former military servicemen able to kill and a huge mass of weapons in the hands of the Ukrainian population,” he said. “Mentally disturbed people facing regime’s injustice will be venting their anger on the defenseless and anyone who comes to hand.”
