What do you do when the powers of evil hijack the things you love the most?
You turn it back on them, in the most ridiculous way possible!
Some weeks ago, we reported on Peter Thiel (one of the most notorious members of the Dark Enlightenment movement) relocating to Argentina, where right-wing president Javier Milei is doing almost anything to please him—including the introduction of legislation that would give unprecedented leeway to AI companies in his country.
Some of those concessions could even involve the establishing of data centers in the Patagonia region. The concept—even though it hasn’t been officially admitted yet—makes logistic sense: the closer you are to the freezing regions of the South Pole, the less you need to worry about energy demands to cool down your servers, coupled with alternative energy opportunities (e.g. methane) available in that part of the world. Hell, if I were a power-crazed tycoon playing XXIst century Monopoly, that’s where I would make my move!
Thiel has founded many companies, including Palantir Technologies, which makes money out of developing invasive AI surveillance systems that would make the fictional companies in the movie Blade Runner blush. But Thiel, like the rest of his techbros, is more of a Tolkien fan; which is why they take every opportunity they can find to name their companies after references taken from the Lord of the Rings books—something Greg and I have ranted plenty about in our Patreon segments.
But now, a legion of Gandalfs is telling the German Balrog: YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!
A group of young men, dressed as the beloved wizard from the LOTR trilogy, set up a peaceful protest outside of the house Thiel bought in one of the fanciest neighborhoods of Buenos Aires.
“We, the Southern Gandalfs, have lit the first beacon to illuminate a path of resistance. Our land does not want to be a laboratory of alchemies orchestrated by millionaires who conspire against our existence.” That was part of the the communiqué the protest group released to the press.
This is the kind of inventive social initiatives that fascist regimes fear the most, as proved by the now emblematic photos of the frog-suited activists in Portland during the anti-ICE protests that started out last year; something we discussed on our YouTube channel with our friend Michael M. Hughes, who knows a thing or two about magical resistances.
Here is heartfelt salute to my Istari brethren, from the Mexican Radagast.
