Saudi Oil Is Burning & Trump Has No Way Out

The Trump administration’s expanding confrontation with Iran is increasingly exposing the limits of military power in a rapidly changing global order. What began as an effort to pressure Tehran has, according to Iranian political analyst and former nuclear negotiator adviser Seyed Mohammad Marandi, evolved into a widening regional conflict in which Washington faces diminishing options and mounting strategic costs. As tensions spread from the Strait of Hormuz to the Red Sea and Yemen’s battlefield, Marandi argues that every escalation risks deepening the energy crisis while strengthening the very alliances the United States hoped to weaken.

In this wide-ranging conversation with Glenn Diesen, Marandi examines why Saudi Arabia’s renewed intervention in Yemen may have backfired, how Iran has adapted its military strategy, and why he believes Washington is confronting a geopolitical reality it can no longer control. Whether or not one agrees with his conclusions, the interview offers an important perspective on how officials and analysts close to Tehran interpret the conflict, the shifting balance of power in West Asia, and the broader transition from a U.S.-dominated international order toward an increasingly multipolar world.
