Once upon a time, anthropologists and archaeologists told us that Lucy was the bridge to our ancient common past with monkey people.  Very controversial. Hopelessly irresponsible mainstream media showed us an artists rendition of female bone of contention.  Dog mats everywhere howled their disapproval. I myself formed my own image of what she would look like today.  I went with Scarlett Johansson. Check it out and tell me I’m wrong:

No way the critics scolded and conjured up pictures of Imogene Coco in the hit 60s TV series It’s About Time.

I don’t know. The hall Lucy phenomenon didn’t seem to ask very long. The bridging ape woman made the cover of Time magazine. And for a while, talking heads contended on air, lightweights self-stimming, while hanky panky (Prince Bandar reference to hanky panky in Eden as a rationale for corruption now) was going on behind the scenes, we later learned. Then they release the greatest hits of Donald J Trump including the number one hit they let you touch their pussies and anything.

Well the BBC has a new five part science series out titled Evolution. The wits and scribes are already comparing it to the best of the late David Attenborough.  So that seemed like a good enough reason to give it a view.  You can’t get the program directly online where I am because the UK government will lock you out. You have to use a VPN. More importantly you have to make up an address in the UK and affirm that you paid the tax on watching TV. Being an American familiar with the history of outrageous British taxes (and I say there’s drinking tea right now) I was quite fine with dodging requirements, and the steps to do so were abundantly available on the internet. Honestly, you could see why George Orwell would have set 1984 in the UK.

(As an aside, things are so intrusively internet of everything right now so full with ultra surveillance sensors everywhere, I have expect to see any day now the remaining lefties from the 60s going around the CBD with rat cages on their faces and sneering two plus two equals four, the rats getting hungrier.)

But seriously why does Donald J Trump keep telling us He fears that the Iranians will decapitate him, as if we should feel sorry for our bleegory leader, m*********** goes and carpet bombs more civilian infrastructure the next day? And how much is he or his family making on side bets every time he calls off a ceasefire in the gulf.

Anywhere the new series does look worth watching.  Replacing Attenborough (as if) is new guy X.  Attenborough went to a good school and this language skills were highly polished like his teeth. The new guys from Liverpool it sounds like you may have hung out at the the bad cave that The Beatles started out in and Liverpool. Plus I thought I saw a tooth that was very British working class. But that aside the guy sure seemed to know his stuff.

As I’ve mentioned the series is broken up in the five parts and the way x has decided to do this was to give us five iconic animals and trace their genetic mapping back to the beginning now they got to where they are today. The five animals he chose are elephants, bats, …..

This case study method is very effective for a short series as it allows the narrated to tell the story and plunged it’s depths well also giving his a concrete present example of how it all works. The narrator begins by telling us what we can expect to learn in the series just as Lord Attenborough used to do.

The narrator begins episode 1 by telling us that all life forms hail back to a tiny entity called LUCA, the Last Unified Common Ancestor of us all — fauna and flora.  The whole big shebang.  What is struck with all for a moment which is about all the attention span any of us has  left. Lucy was just bone p*** compared to Luca.

More on the nuts of bolts of LUCA.

We begin by examining the strange in wonderful evolutionary development of the elephant.  X goes….

He spends a lot of time on the nose of the pachyderm.  More details,  including visuals and descriptions of the elephant’s tiny distant relative….

Somewhere in all of this narration I begin to see a pattern emerging of the narrated trying to find his his niche as a documentarian. X has the side of that he’s going to tell a lot of puns.  Give examples of some puns. This is lame but endearing as he seems to be trying to Molly cuddle theory ship who don’t mind blame but endearing concepts. —  like democracy and the 21st century.

I myself remember elephants well. Well not really. Australian university that’s an anthropology major and one of the first things I had to read was the forest people which depicted the Mbuti pygmies of the Ituri Forest.  Real socialists you had to admire the way they clanned together, gladly fostering each other’s kids (I enviously compared how those Mbuti kids were treated compared to my own unwelcome stints in foster care where the Father’s belt came off too often and too easily over what some minor sarcasm). The Mbuti moved around everywhere with the elephants and thrived, until the hunters game looking for tusks, devastating the herds so some Hemingway Hero good furnish ivory do the Steinway piano keyboard industry.  Now the Mbuti all f***** up, fighting over remaining elephants, if there are even any left, and with the game so bad on the poaching front that keyboards have plastic keys now.  F******.  Like dylan asked all those years ago, who’s going to take away their licensed to kill?

It’s hard to believe I come from the same stock as as he’s right-wing not jobs who are living entities brought into this world for one function and one function only to kill life.  Have a think on that paradox and then pass the bong.

Episodes 2-5 look like they will be excellent too.  Here’s short summary of each episode and its precious thesis.

Concluding paragraph that has win as John hurt playing The elephant Man. I am not an animal I’m a human being. We cry. And then they shoot him down. Tsk, tsk.

No doubt someone will make a lot of Lucre off of LUCA.  T-shirts will abound. Contention will be all around us. We will puke himself disgust as we think of what they do with abattoirs — chickum, lambs, cows, and even kangaroos.  Will get sick every time  we feel the need to mow the lawn. Eventually tension will pass and we’ll note that the. Mountainous surplus of LUCA t-shirts will go the way of Che and end up delivered by cargo ship do the colourful people of Papua New Guinea.  The gods must be crazy.
