President Donald Trump dismissed a War Powers Act resolution that aimed to end the war against Iran as meaningless.
“Yesterday, in a meaningless vote, the House voted, 4 bad Republicans and all of the Dumocrats, to limit my War Powers, right in the middle of my final negotiations to end the War with the Islamic Republic of Iran, the President wrote on Truth Social Thursday. “Who would do such an unpatriotic thing. They know where the negotiations stand.”
The House on Wednesday passed a War Powers Resolution that would direct President Trump to end his war with Iran. The bill passed in a vote of 215 to 208, with four Republicans — Reps. Thomas Massie, Warren Davidson, Tom Barrett, and Brian Fitzpatrick — joining Democrats.
The legislation is a concurrent resolution. Some interpret this to mean the legislation is only symbolic. However, if the legislation passes both chambers of Congress, it would signal to the White House that the war against Iran lacks support on Capitol Hill.
“The Iran War Powers Resolution that I cosponsored (opposing the war) just passed the House of Representatives,” Massie wrote on X following the vote. “The People’s House is sending a message: end this war.”
Trump said that the members of Congress who voted for the War Powers resolution should be “ashamed.” “The Democrats are fueled by Trump Derangement Syndrome. They would rather have our Country fail than give me another, of many, victories.” He continued, “The four Republicans, that’s a whole other story – They’re GRANDSTANDERS! They should be ashamed of themselves.”
