Kuwait reports that its airport suffered significant damage during an Iranian drone attack. Iran launched the attack shortly after the US targeted an Iranian ship.
“A number of hostile drones targeted today the passenger building (T1) at Kuwait International Airport, which resulted in significant material damage to the building and injuries to a number of individuals,” The Official Spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi, said on Wednesday.
Central Command said that it was able to defend US soldiers in Kuwait from the Iranian attack. “US forces successfully defeated multiple Iranian ballistic missiles and drones,” CENTCOM wrote on X. The statement added that the US conducted strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island.

The Iranian attack occurred shortly after the US targeted an Iranian tanker in the Gulf of Oman. “US forces disabled an unladen oil tanker that was attempting to sail toward an Iranian port on the Arabian Gulf, June 2,” CENTCOM posted on X Tuesday. “A US aircraft ultimately disabled the vessel by firing a Hellfire missile into the ship’s engine room, preventing the tanker from reaching Iran.”

In addition to strikes targeting Kuwait, Iran said it also targeted a US and Israeli-linked ship in the Persian Gulf.
The exchange of fire comes as the ceasefire between the US and Iran is on the brink of collapse.
