Department of Justice Announces $1.776 Billion Fund for Trump Allies

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Monday that it would be creating a $1.776 billion fund for allies of the Trump administration “who suffered weaponization and lawfare” under the Biden administration.

The fund arises out of a deal struck between the DOJ and the Trump family, whereby the Trump family would drop their $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS for the leaking of their tax returns in exchange for the creation of the fund––from which they will receive no monetary payments––and a formal apology. 

The Trump family dropped their suit amid the possible dismissal of the suit by Southern District of Florida Judge Kathleen Williams, who questioned whether they and the DOJ were in opposition, as both entities are controlled by President Donald Trump. 

The DOJ announced that the distribution of these funds would be by a five-person panel, a move criticized by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, as “completely under the control of [Trump’s] sycophant and cronies [who] he can dismiss them at any time.” 

This is the second attempt by lawmakers to establish funds for compensation over Biden-era weaponization of government. The first was an attempt by Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to grant senators the ability to sue the government for $500,000 if their records were subpoenaed under Jack Smith’s Arctic Frost Investigation.
