The mantra AI advocates keep repeating ad-nauseam: “You’d better jump on board, or else you’re gonna be left behind!”
To which I reply: BY ALL MEANS. GO RIGHT AHEAD WITHOUT ME. SO LONG AND SEND ME A POSTCARD.
If your idea of ‘progress’ is mindlessly following the herd without knowing where you’ll land, then that’s progress I can live perfectly without.
And fortunately, more and more people are starting to resist the urge to follow the herd. Communities in the United States are protesting data centers that are stealing their power and water. Students are booing AI peddlers during commencement speeches. Workers are quietly sabotaging their companies’ efforts to implement AI into every aspect of their work processes.
If politicians are just willing to kowtow to the whims of the ultra-rich instead of voters, then I predict a Butlerian Jihad will be in order.
